Background of the Study
Women’s participation in agriculture is a critical factor in rural economic development, yet their contributions often remain underrecognized. In Iseyin Local Government Area, Oyo State, women play a pivotal role in agricultural production, processing, and marketing, significantly contributing to food security and local economies. Despite their active involvement, women face challenges such as limited access to credit, land, and advanced agricultural technologies (Adetola, 2023). Empowering women in agriculture can lead to improved productivity, enhanced household income, and overall economic development. This study examines the extent of women’s participation in agriculture, the barriers they encounter, and the resulting impact on rural economic growth (Folashade, 2024). It also explores strategies for increasing women’s involvement in agricultural value chains and fostering inclusive development (Yetunde, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the significant role of women in agriculture in Iseyin, systemic barriers limit their full participation and contribution to rural economic development. Challenges such as restricted access to financial resources, land ownership, and modern technologies hinder their productivity and economic empowerment (Chinwe, 2023). This study seeks to identify and analyze these barriers, evaluating their impact on agricultural productivity and rural development, and aims to propose actionable solutions to enhance women’s participation and overall economic growth.

Objectives of the Study:

To assess the level of women’s participation in agriculture.

To identify challenges limiting women’s contributions to rural economic development.

To recommend strategies to empower women in agricultural sectors.

Research Questions:

What is the extent of women’s participation in agriculture in Iseyin?

What barriers hinder women’s full involvement in agricultural activities?

How can women’s participation in agriculture be enhanced to boost rural economic development?

Research Hypotheses:

H1: Women’s participation in agriculture positively influences rural economic development.

H2: Barriers such as limited access to resources negatively affect women’s productivity.

H3: Empowerment initiatives can significantly enhance women’s contributions to agriculture.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it highlights the crucial role of women in agriculture and rural economic development in Iseyin. The insights will assist policymakers and stakeholders in designing targeted interventions that empower women, thereby promoting inclusive economic growth (Oluwaseun, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to examining women’s participation in agriculture and its impact on rural economic development in Iseyin Local Government Area, focusing solely on gender-related agricultural dynamics.

Definitions of Terms:

Women’s Participation: Involvement of women in economic and agricultural activities.

Agriculture: The practice of cultivating the soil, growing crops, and raising livestock.

Iseyin Local Government Area: The administrative region in Oyo State where the study is conducted.
